Why Life Matters (Promoted By Giving Advice)

Someone the other day asked me why life even matters/ why is it important?  And to be honest that really saddened me because  that issue should not be one to discourage or mock. Your life is the most important thing you have because once it’s done your history. You only have once chance and it’s a few years then you’re gone and you see darkness for a good long while, unless there really is a heaven/hell (which one person believes while another does not, not getting into that though.)

But to the be fair to the person in question, he was a teenager who just broke up with his first GF, was in a first time situation. Most of everyone’s been there before, that moment you just feel like a failure and hate everything, and I am a master of dealing with it. So I gave this kid a pep talk that followed listing to his situation.  And to be honest it was one of my better ones, and I even remembered what I said:

“Young Man, your girl was being a witch, and trust me the world’s full of them.  You would be surprised how many of them exist. But you know what? She’s not worth questioning your life and wishing it would end. Odds are she will regret dumping you one of these days, but it means more for you to actually you know be alive because if you’re dead she will be talking to you at your grave and that’s no fun.  Even if you two end up as total strangers you’ll end up with someone else, its human nature.  Now quit being silly young man, pick yourself up, straighten your head, and go have a good time. Now go, move along…”

You see, I did that whole monologue without mention that crappy YOLO phrase (besides just now of course.) It worked, the kid picked himself up and acted like normal, if my generation would have had that help we could have been alright.

Life is not nothing to despise or mock, it’s rather precious and important. Don’t take it for granted and do things the way you should, and don’t be one of these people including myself who thinks about their mistakes. Because it creates stress and stress is no good for anyone and it could even take years off your life (or so a guy from the DMV told me, and I believed him.)

I see many people who are like that kid, and it saddens me. It shouldn’t be that way, and I know it’s not possible to be totally happy 24/7 but being a better person at the end of the day is much better.  Be proud of who you are, even if you’re a flawed individual or one who is considered a freak, because sometimes it is cool to be unperfect, even if society hates that.  Because in that way your telling Popular Society to go F itself, and I love it.

What to Expect (In the next Few Weeks)

I decided to have an off night tonight but I figured I would write something anyways. Here are a few of the things I want to do in the next bit of time.

Things to Expect:

-My Favorite Songs/Movies list.    I will do a series of these over the summer; I just don’t know how many I will list.  Could be just 10 but could even be 100.  Should be a more general series of lists but if they are successful I will do more.

-High School Football stuff. I’m into the history of the area's schools and I have done some reasrch, I hope to put it into use.  Don't know how many schools I will write about but I will do one for sure.  Could be about certain teams or ball games.

-Biggest Babe List. It’s not one of my blogs without one of these. Just need to figure all the basics out.

-Unique/Random Stuff.  These will be blogs that use input from all of the readers to work, and are more random and creative. This is where I try new stuff.

I hope this stuff works out well in the end, but I need to put it to use first.  So far everything's going fine with the blog, and I am quite thrilled with this. I hope it continues to get better.

But anyways, I am sorry for writing so little but needed a night off. I will be back tomorrow! So return or check my old stuff out, I have a few things written up, it should be easy to find on here.

The High School Experience: My Thoughts and Advice

My high school experience was one of uniqueness that only I experienced, but at the same time it’s similar to what is seen in countless movies over the years.  At times it was really fun and enjoyable, but yet other times it was a living hell for others.  While I enjoyed my time there, it’s kind of a death sentence in a way watching the new kids come up through the ranks knowing what will happen to them. It’s not something for the timid that’s for sure.

There are a few universal truths about high school that everyone should know about:

1.Your bound to change in many ways and forms. Girls develop into women and their bodies/personalities change and guys usually become men (but some just never grow up). Most important is your personality, you will be surprised by the changes from when your 13 to 18. It took me until I was junior to become my current self with the “IDGAF” attitude towards stuff. But this period is really important for you evolution to adulthood.

2.You lose your longtime friends but gain some new ones.  My best friend went to the early college so I was out of my element for a bit, but by year 2 I felt normal again. I made several new high school and a few lifelong friends. It was not easy but I had a good time finding new faces, but it was sad watching old ones decline.

3. Cliques are a way of life.  My high school had many of them:  Athletes, Rednecks, Religous Based People, Racial Groups,  Emos, Druggies, Pricks, and even more than that.   Your expected to join one of these or your considered a rebel, and that’s what I was.  I consider it a matter of pride that I was un-classifyable, because in that way I was telling everyone to go F*ck theirselves.

4.Drama sucks your soul out.  Every day some bull crap is started over anything. These kids love to argue with each other and it can be addictive. It’s rather pathetic if you ask me, because if your forced to participate in it, then you sink to their level. Drama lovers rank plenty low on my universal value chart.

5. Dating’s Tough. I never once got to the perfect 10’s. Why you may ask? Because a good majority of them had sticks up their ass towards me. I was too “unusual” for them and not perfect enough, so I never had a chance. There were some angels in the mix, but they were way too hard to find and I only knew a few of them. I am still friends with those ladies. But the bitty's? No thanks.  In that way I am glad I did not end up with any of them, because I want a lady who considers me perfect. That’s one thing these kids don’t realize, and they go for the perfect kids, who then spend a dramatic and hectic relationship for a good period of time. I’m glad I never experienced that.

Everyone might think I am making high school sound negative, but I am not. Instead I am using this as sort of a warning, high school and your golden teenage years are what you make of it. If you handle it like a pro you could have the best years of your life, but if you’re a ho, jerk, or extremely stuck up, then karma can be a bitty.

I had a decent time when I was that age. I was an athlete (even if I was not meant to be one) and just all around nice to everyone. Could I have had more fun, yes. Could I have been more of a typical guy, yes. But to a point I am glad I did not do these things, mainly because I would have sold myself out for attention, and that’s not the way to go. In some ways it’s actually worse than being a sexual ho, if that makes since. Your soul and self-worth seizes to exist, and you probably will never get it back.

I thought I lost mine after I graduated, but it was really in hiding all that time, I just did not know it.  High School can leave some of you jaded, but it's always fixable.

But anyways I’m stalling here. If you just want one piece of advice from me here it is:

Be true to yourself, and everything you always wanted will come to you. It all starts in high school, as the things you experience are trial versions of real life. Do it all right, you’ll be set for life, but if you screw it up, good luck at everything else, your shit out of luck.

Changes to The Blog

Coming soon, I will have more than one writer here. I asked a buddy of mine to come on and add something to this blog, more importantly a female edge. So I now have to share time with a babe, but an important babe with an attuide. I hope it works out.

Also coming will be a rotating author. What that means is that if you like to write and want to contribute something to the blog, then with my permission you are welcome to contribute. It just needs to be something I find worthy and important. So through your drafts to me and I will read them, and I am hopefully for a good turnout here.

Pop Culture Time: My Favorite Sources of Comedy

For years I have always tried to have a great since of humor, mainly because I enjoy to make people laugh. It’s a fun experience to go through and it’s worth the time and effort. People always asked me who my influences were and I always kept it a secret… Until now.  I have found various things over the years that have influenced me in one way or another, and I would like to list them.  Here are my top five favorite sources of comedy:

1.Saturday Night Live

You kids may be thinking: “But man this show sucks,” and yes it does a little today, but back from 1975-1995 the show was amazing.  This was truly a first of its kind show, mainly due to the type of format involved. Sketch Comedy was an underground thing back in the old days, but it was not on TV much, this broke that exception.  This show made Sketch Comedy cool,  and was the first show that held nothing back, the writers and actors truly did not give a fuck. They attacked anyone they felt deserved it and mentioned stuff that no one ever imagined (ex:Drugs,Sex) which were not on prime time TV (8-11 PM) Then comes their name “The Not Ready For Primetime Players) which defined the first group from 1975-1980.   I have each of the early season's on dvd, and I can name every host from 1975-1980, kind of an odd accomplishment.

Most shows usually die down when the main group but not this show, it reloaded.  In 1980 a young guy named Eddie Murphy came along, and saved the show from dying. Not an easy feat but he did it and gave four good years before going to Hollywood. Then came the 1986-1994 cast, which featured many of today’s comics like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Mike Myers and the late but great Chris Farley. However this had to come to an end and NBC forced the guys out for Will Ferrell and his generation, which was more miss than hit. But the show’s still going and hopefully is due for another good period coming soon.

Best Feature: Comedy Sketches, Commercial Parodies

Worst Feature: Modern version of the show.

2.The Howard Stern Show

If SNL innovated the “IDGAF” altitude, then this guy took it too the moon.  This man single handedly made radio worth listing and not a chore with his show, which many consider stupid but I consider it a fine art. This show not only does parodies, but manages to make insult comedy and drama funny and intense at the same time. This show features a little something for everyone: Parodies, Insult Humor, Funny Interviews, Weird and Unique guests, and even childish humor. Plus the interviews on the show can be top notch.  Not only is the material funny, but the group Howard has assembled are not throw-a-ways, rather they own in their own ways. Despite all having tough lives they manage to make many people’s better, and are fun to listen to and watch.

Most kids now the show for its Porn Star guests and the Sybian Machine (Which is quite possibly the greatest gift to porn stars mankind has ever made,) but there is a whole wealth of material they are missing. It Can easily be found on You Tube, and it’s a great way to waste time if you have nothing to do. Plus Stern’s biography film is one of my all-time favorite films, but more on that some other day.

Best Feature: The Uniqueness of the Show

Worst Feature: The Modern Show. (It’s still good but they only go three days a week anymore unlike 5 in the old days.)

3.The Simpsons

Ah Yes, the really true nuclear family who first came into our homes at Christmas 1989, and has not left since, even if they refuse to die. It’s easy to say the show sucks now and needs to evolve a little (I personally wouldn’t mind a teenage Bart/Lisa) but if you was to catch it in it’s prime, boy was it something.  It was a great show and pioneered it’s own since of humor.  Not only did it parody stuff, but it introduced in a way “Smart-Ass” humor, which is still seen nowadays. Back when the show started Bart Simpson was the main character due to his smart-ass style phrases and altitude, which was popular among the kids. But now of course Homer’s the face of the show and has evolved it even further to a cash making machine. And it kind of it lost it's groove because of that.

For many people of my generation they watched the Simpsons first before anything else, and it helped to define the 1990’s.  The show was not only funny but smart and even sad in a few episodes. They managed to appeal to everyone’s sides and that helped to make it so popular. Not only was it funny in the traditional term, it stands alone as it’s own beast. Not bad for a show that’s 20+ years.

Worst Feature: It’s stayed past it’s welcome.

4.Robot Chicken

Easily the best show on Adult Swim, this is the king of pop culture references. Ever wondered what would happen if your favorite character had a personality beyond their usual self? Well this show not only shows that, but pays tribute and even mocks some stuff as well.  A lot of people compare this to “Family Guy” but it is not really comparable due to the type of show. FG is a traditional animated comedy while RC’s its own show, and is 15 min shorter.   The guy who created this show was Seth Green who plays Chris on Family Guy, and even manages to have the actors on some of his show.

                                        

 I heavily got into this show when I was 14, and it was quite a new thing. I was never into Family Guy much, and I was late getting the Internet, so I never even knew this type of thing exists. So it was really fun and exciting to watch the show and it’s tributes: (Star Wars, Superhero’s.) Another thing that makes this show unique is the use of Dolls/Action figures for the visual, instead of cartoons. This is something to my knowledge that has never been done before, and helps to make it unique. It has never managed to lose steam.

Worst Feature: If anything it’s time as each episode is only 15 min.

5.Internet Reviewers

Last but not least is the internet comedy. I finally got my internet by April of 2008 and I have been in love ever since. For once I actually had a grip on life and it’s been fun since, and I have found many things. Most notably the ability to watch creative stuff.  In my opinion the most creative form of creativity on the Internet is the Internet Reviewers. Most notably: AVGN (Angry Video Game Nerd,) NC (The Nostalgia Critic) and the CS (The Cinema Snob).

All of these guys are accomplished filmmakers, and have experienced the same things I have gon threw in life: Anger/Frustration, as well as lack of fine things.  They very rarely find good stuff in anything, and it could drive you nuts. In this case, they took their filmmaking skills to the test and decided to make a series out of it.  AVGN’s the simpler of the three as he reviews video games, find their flaws, and then goes ape-shit. Every video has a theme and every video has an epic flip out or confrontation, but yet it’s wonderful to watch.  Not only does the AVGN (Real Name: James Rolfe) love games but he’s an accomplished movie maker and has a major and impressive collection of every movie imaginable. He’s the closest to me in views of stuff.

Then there’s the NC(Doug Walker)  and Cinema Snob (Doug Jones), who focus about films and TV.  The NC’s more into kiddy and general stuff, while The Snob’s into horror films and even porn.  Usually jokes are made off the movies especially the crap in them, but they make smart pop culture references. Not silly and random like Family Guy, but well done and placed.  These three makes those who are considered nerds feel cool and worthy of the passions, and manage to be entertaining as hell at the same time.

They make reviewing stuff seem cool, and demonstrate how it’s not bad to be proud of your passions.

Worst Feature: They review boring stuff sometimes.

It's amazing how geniuses further inspire more people over time who people consider would be worse off from watching their material.  Every thing I mentioned were laughed at and mocked at one time, but are now universal and still lasts. Isn't that nice?
